By now you should have received from our water provider, CalAm Water Co., a notice of its proposal to seek an increase in our water billing (application No. A.16-07-002). If you have not read the notice carefully, you should. If you have tossed or lost it, the notice is available from CalAm at 4701 Beloit Dr., Sacramento, 95838. What is proposed is to have the California Public Utilities Commission to approve a rate increase for us of up to more than 20% over three years that will help fund certain enhancements to our present system and service, and also combine our service area here in Sacramento with other service areas in Yolo and Sonoma Counties, where their rates are notably higher than our rates here. By combining the service areas, we in effect would be partially underwriting the costs of service in the other areas. CPUC hearings will be set soon to take public testimony on this proposal. Stay tuned.
