Meals on Wheels serves thousands of seniors throughout Sacramento County and provides them with hot and home-delivered meals every weekday as well as safety net services and other kinds of support.
One aspect of the program that many people aren’t aware of is their AniMeals program. Many of the home-bound participants they serve have difficulty preparing nutritious meals for themselves and have an even harder time feeding their beloved pets. When there is little pet food in the house, participants will opt to share their hot-delivered meals with their dogs and cats, so there is always a demand for pet food. The program helps ensure that seniors and their pets don’t go hungry by providing dry and canned dog and cat food, along with home-delivered meals.
In the spirit of National Pet Month in May, Meals on Wheels is launching a month-long pet food drive at their distribution center, located at 4527 Harlin Ave. (by S. Watt and Jackson Rd.). Hours are from 7:30am to 4:00pm, so donations can be accepted anytime during that time frame.
