RCA has been asked by the Sacramento Transportation Authority to share the following message with the community. Measure B would provide funds for road and transportation improvements in Sacramento County, including Rosemont. Although the RCA has heard a briefing on this measure, it has not taken a position on it. (RCA has received no request from the opposition to Measure A to provide information.)
The Facts About Measure B: The Road Maintenance and Traffic Relief Act
Measure B is a county-wide half-cent transportation sales tax on the November ballot. If approved by voters, Measure B would raise $120 million annually to repave streets, repair roads and bridges, and fund highway, connector and interchange projects.
Measure B would also provide funding for operations, maintenance, security and the expansion of Light Rail and other transit services to increase options for transit users as well improve access and safety for bicycles and pedestrians.
The Transportation Expenditure Plan outlines how funds raised by Measure B will be used for all modes of transportation throughout Sacramento County. In order to take effect, Measure B needs to be approved by 66.7% of voters this fall.
- Emphasis on Fix-it-First. Measure B prioritizes fix-it-first investments to address transportation maintenance and rehabilitation projects. This means using funds to fill potholes, repave local streets, repair aging bridges and enhance existing public transit before moving on to highway and transit expansion projects.
- Stable source of local revenue. Measure B provides a dedicated source of local funding that allows Sacramento County to qualify for millions in state and federal transportation matching funds.
- Strong accountability and transparency measures. Measure B includes accountability provisions, including the Sacramento Transportation Authority’s annual audits and an Independent Taxpayer Oversight Committee.
