NW_SignAs we look back on National Night Out, now is the time to continue (or begin?) the conversations with your neighbors and organize a Neighborhood Watch Group on your block. It is easy and fun to do, and can make a big difference in how secure your neighborhood is in the future. Really all you need to do is coordinate with several neighbors – the more the better – who live generally within sight of each other’s houses, share contact information so you can contact each other in an emergency, and select someone to be the “captain” of the group to help keep the information current and pass on information to the others. The captain would be connected to a larger network that informs groups of issues of importance to neighborhood secure, like alerts to scams working in the area, or nearby burglaries, or sightings of suspicious persons. When a group is formed it is connected to the crime prevention officer at the Sacramento Sheriff’s Dept. the Rosemont Community Association actively promotes Neighborhood Watch groups, and in Rosemont we even have unique NW signs that you can obtain to post informing people that a NW group is active your area. Of course, you can always plan social events to help keep the network strong. For more detailed information click on the NW tab under “Programs” on this RCA web site, or contact SSD Officer Heidi Herrera at hherrera@sacsheriff.com or 875-5852. You’ll be glad you have a group in your neighborhood!
