SMUD staff provided a briefing to the Rosemont community and board about the rate change proposals the SMUD Board will be voting on in June. The proposal aims to shift more to a time-based scale so that electricity used at peak times cost more. The intention is to discourage use in those few hours and shift it to times when typically less electricity is used. The purpose is to avoid having to add expensive generation facilities that would cause rates to rise even more. SMUD calculates that the net result for most users would be no net change in electric bills over the year. The presentation made by SMUD is available for you to view HERE. All are urged to look at it to better understand what is being proposed.
