With our long stretches of triple digit temperatures it is very important to take extra precautions to stay safe and healthy. This is also true for your pets. If they are outside during the heat, be very sure they have plenty of shade and fresh water readily available. Be sure they are not on hot surfaces like patios and walkways where the surface temperatures can reach well over 140 degrees – even when you are walking them. And of course, never leave pets in a car during a heat wave. Inside a car the temperature can also quickly reach well over 140 degrees, hot enough the animal could quickly die. If you see such a situation where an animal is in a hot vehicle, the law permits you to rescue it.
