And if you are one of the old-timers here, you might think that it has not been for the better. We would suggest that is not entirely true and that there are many reasons why it has changed. And most of those reasons for the changes we would suggest are for the better.
Yes, we do have a number of yards that are not being even poorly maintained, and they make the whole area look bad. So rather than rant, let’s work together to improve the situation. Yes, we do have occasional rashes of burglaries and break-ins in various areas, but often it is because a home or car was not locked or the owner failed to take precautions. That does not justify the crime; it simply made it easier to commit, and made all of our community a target for more bad guys to hit.
Consider that many of us do not know even those who live near us. When we remember the “good old days” we often forget that neighbors were actually friends, and sometimes did things together. Often their kids were friends. There was a greater sense of community than we often have today. So if those conditions were good and beneficial then, why don’t we work to make them part of our lives today? If you have stories of how this has or can happen, please share them with us so we can build a greater sense of community here in Rosemont, and not just complain about people we don’t even know.
