If you know of a teen who will soon be getting a driver’s license, consider signing up for the free Start Smart classes offered by the California Highway Patrol. The classes are a great way to get teen drivers aged 15-19 and their parents/guardians better informed about how to be a safe driver. Class will cover collision avoidance techniques, driver responsibility, collision trends, distracted driving laws, alcohol related driving laws and the provisional license process. The program also offers an opportunity for new drivers and parents/guardians to ask CHP Officers clarifying questions. The classes run for approximately two hours on Tuesday evenings, from 6:30 to 8:30pm at the CHP East Area office, 11336 Trade Center Dr. in Rancho Cordova. Take your choice of classes set for: April 19, May 17, June 21 or July 19. Parents/guardians interested in signing up for the class will need to register for the class by calling (916) 464-1450 (space is limited). It is encouraged that parents/guardians attend the class with their teen driver.
